Hearts of a Servant - Roy & Jane Buttrum

The teens at our church honored my parents 22+ years of service with the teen program on April 20th with a Roast N Toast. It was a surprise for them and were they ever surprised!!! I wish I had a picture that would show just how clueless they were, but I don't. It was a really nice evening full of stories (mostly about my dad's crazy driving and my mom keeping him awake), good food, a great cake, A LOT of friends and A LOT of LOVE!!!! I'm guessing there were probably 300 people there, which made the evening that much more special for them. It was also special because all of our immediate family was able to come in for it. They still can't believe we all (family and everyone at church) kept the secret for so long! HAHA!

Kevin, the current youth minster, made a video for them which turned out great! I hope you have a Facebook account because that's the only place where you can find it online.

I can honestly say I didn't have a clue how much my parents truely did for the youth program (& church) when I was young, but now I see how rare of a couple they really are. They are so giving and don't even realize it. They are still saying they can't believe they did the Roast n Toast for them and that they don't deserve it. I can also honestly say that I am probably the longest standing member of the youth group at Sylvan Hills. I went everywhere my parents did which included youth trips and parties when I was young. My brother started 7th grade (youth group) when I was starting my kindergarten year of school and my parents have been helping with the teens since then, so I've been a member of the youth group well...FOREVER it seems. I can't remember not being around the youth group. Dain and I have been trying to help out when we can with the youth group now at Sylvan Hills...I guess it's just in my blood. They are such a great group of teens!! We really enjoy being around them.

I am so thankful to have the parents I do. Even though we are a normal family with all the normal family stuff/drama, we have great Christian examples of parents. They are so selfless and giving. I know I (or anyone else for that matter) can call on them ANY TIME they need them and they'll be there.

I love you Momma and Daddy!
